After being on the shelf for two long months, the Dallas Cowboys get Tony Romo back for this Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins

Hold the phone! Just when you thought the 2-7 Dallas Cowboys were dead in the water, there is now a little bit of life.

Tony Romo, who has been out since Week 1’s victory against the New York Giants, is expected to be cleared to play and start this Sunday on the road against the Miami Dolphins:

This isn’t a total surprise, though. Romo was largely expected to return right around this time, and even began participating in individual drills as early as last week.

The news of Romo’s return desperately gives Dallas the shot in the arm it needed to potentially turn this season around. Between Romo and Dez Bryant’s injuries and the entire fiasco surrounding Greg Hardy — which once again reared its ugly head again before Sunday’s game against Tampa Bay when it was reported that Hardy and teammate Demarcus Lawrence had to be separated — Jerry Jones’ bunch has had a whirlwind season thus far after finishing last season at 12-4 and NFC East Division Champs.

Speaking of the NFC East, it’s pretty weak. The Giants’ one-point loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday means they’re in first place with a .500 record at 5-5. Both the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins are 4-5. It isn’t totally out of the realm of possibility, but if somehow Dallas manages the improbable and wins out, they would finish 9-7, with a 4-2 record in the division. That could be crazy enough to actually win this mediocre division.

One game a time; Romo’s return against a bad Dolphins’ defense is precisely what the doctor ordered.
