Houston Texans cornerback Johnathan Joseph picks off Andy Dalton’s pass, hurting the team that picked him in round one of the 2006 NFL Draft

The Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans are locked in a tough defensive battle where the hits have been more plentiful than the points. In a 6-3 game that sees Cincy on top a play was made that could have swung the momentum some.

Houston cornerback Johnathan Joseph, a first-round pick of the Bengals back in 2006, made the catch of the night when he picked off quarterback Andy Dalton’s pass intended for receiver Marvin Jones.

The deep pass by Dalton was a bad overthrow that Joseph was able to get under. It bounced out of his hands and ESPN announcer Mike Tirico even called it a near pick. The ball continued to bounce though, without hitting the ground and found it’s way back into the veteran corners hands.

For the 31-year old corner it was his first pick of the season, and 26th of his career. He came over to Houston in 2011 after five successful seasons in Cincinnati. The Texans were unable to capitalize on the turnover as their drive stalled after a promising start, and had to punt it back to the Bengals.

It has been a slow-paced game and Houston could use a few more breaks like this as they try and put the first blemish on the 8-0 Bengals record. Houston also has a chance to tie for first place in the AFC South at 4-5 if they can get the win.
