Kris Bryant was named NL Rookie of the Year, but was having some trouble finding out
Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant was named the National League Rookie of the Year on Monday by a unanimous vote. The superstar rookie was a huge catalyst for the Cubs success and undoubtedly deserving of the honors. It’s a shame that MLB Network had just a bit of trouble letting the 23-year-old in on the good news.
MLB Network was trying to set up a great candid moment of Bryant reacting to the news that he had been named NL Rookie of the Year. However, there was some sort of technical difficulty in terms of the studio communicating with Bryant and the Cubs star couldn’t seem to ever hear the hosts telling him that he’s won the award:
Unless Bryant’s reaction to winning NL Rookie of the Year is a confused look and mumbling “Are they there?” while he taps his ear, this is the absolute worse time to have technical difficulties. Just let the man find out that everyone thinks he’s really good at baseball!
In fairness, Bryant had to have at least some idea that the award would be coming his way. The third baseman was expected to do big things as soon as the Cubs called him up and he delivered. He finished the year hitting .275 with an .857 OPS to go along with 26 home runs and 99 RBIs on the season. Now that he has the Rookie of the Year award going in his trophy case, his next task will be slightly more daunting and monumental: helping lead the Cubs a World Series victory.
