According to the agent of Napoli midfielder, Jorginho, Arsenal have sent scouts to watch the 23-year-old and could be interested in a January move for his client.
Considering Napoli have not lost a single match since the Serie A opener back on August 23rd, it is no surprise that their players are being scouted by clubs across Europe. Teams like Chelsea and Liverpool have been linked with big money moves for Argentine international, Gonzalo Higguain, and Spanish winger Jose Callejon’s name is always being bandied about.
However, with Napoli sitting just two points behind Serie A frontrunners Fiorentina, and atop their UEFA Europa League group, the club isn’t very interested in letting any of their stars depart from the Stadio San Paolo. Arsenal might be willing to make the Italian outfit an offer they can’t refuse though, with Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, admitting that the Gunners have sent scouts to watch his client.
"“One of the head scouts of Arsenal is well-known, and so I know he was at Marassi for the Napoli match. If Napoli receive an irrefutable offer for Jorginho in January then it’s normal that we’d make our assessments.”"
With Chelsea struggling, the race for Premier League supremacy is wide open at the moment, and Arsenal are in the thick of the battle. They currently sit tied atop the table with Manchester City on 26 points, but are in second because due to goal differential.
This is the best opportunity that Arsene Wenger has had to bring the Premier League trophy back to North London since they last won it back in the 2004, and he could be willing to make a significant investment in January to do so.
The 23-year-old is valued at around £22million ($33.5 million) and will not be cheap to pry away from the Partenopei. He has featured in 12 matches in all competitions this season, and could be the perfect fit for an Arsenal side desperate to replace their aging midfield. Napoli also have aspirations of winning their domestic league though, and will not want to lose their young starlet in the middle of the campaign.
