Bill O’Brien shoots down Maryland rumors

Bill O’Brien dispels the notion that he might leave the Houston Texans for the vacant Maryland Terrapins job during his post-game press conference Monday.

It seems as though Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien has no interest in the vacant head coaching gig at the University of Maryland. Many thought that friction existed between O’Brien and the Houston front office and he may leave the Texans to go back to the Big Ten to rebuild a struggling Maryland program.

Via the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson, O’Brien said, “I will not respond to those things. I know you have to ask that and it’s not directed at you, but anyone can say anything. They can just throw it out there and say anything. All I know is that I’m the head coach of the Houston Texans and we just had a great win.”

O’Brien’s Texans team knocked off formerly undefeated Cincinnati on the road on Monday Night Football in Week 10. The Texans moved to 4-5 on the year after clipping the Bengals in The Jungle, 10-6. Houston sits at 4-5, and is tied for the lead in the AFC South with rival Indianapolis.

With the Colts having a down year and the AFC South up for grabs between technically all four teams, it’s understandable for O’Brien to do nothing but endorse his football team, since the Texans are very much in the playoff mix in their division. A road win over Cincinnati is a great morale booster for the Texans, even after losing starting quarterback Brian Hoyer to a concussion. O’Brien and the Houston Texans will have to carry on with T.J. Yates as their quarterback versus the New York Jets on Sunday.
