ESPN College Pick Em Picks For Week 12
By Mike Marteny
Last week, I only missed three games after I tweeted Saturday morning about changing a couple of picks.
Changing to Air Force and Oklahoma proved to be good moves. The bad news is that I missed both my nine and ten point games, but hey, I got 2-8 right! I just need to select the confidence points better.
There are some tough ones out there this week once again, but I still think it looks easier than last week.
Here are ESPN College Pick Em Picks for week 12. They are in order from most confident (10) to least confident (1) for those of you that play the confidence game like I do.
(10) Oklahoma over TCU:
The Horned Frog defense was exposed by Oklahoma State, and they nearly lost to Kansas. Even if Trevone Boykin plays, that ankle likely wont be 100 percent, which limits his mobility, which takes away the greatest aspect of his game. Oklahoma is steamrolling everyone lately. Even in a ten point win at Baylor, they never looked like they were going to lose. This game could get ugly in Norman.
(9)Ohio State over Michigan State:
This is a marquee game only because ESPN wants it to be. The Buckeyes are a different team with Barrett under center, and Michigan State tried to lose for a full month before Nebraska picked them off. The Spartan defense is not among the elite anymore, but Ohio State’s may be. It is going to be tough sledding for the Sparty offense. Ohio State could win this by a large margin.
(8) Oregon over USC:
The Trojan defense has been less than stellar, but so has Oregon’s. That said, the Ducks have been nearly unstoppable with a healthy Vernon Adams at quarterback. This will likely be a high scoring game, but Oregon’s speed allows them to pull away at some point.
(7)Michigan over Penn State:
The Nittany Lions have been significantly better with Saquon Barkley toting the ball, but the fact is that Christian Hackenberg is still their quarterback. Michigan has a good enough defense to shut down the Penn State run game, and Hackenberg can’t throw well enough to beat them. Just another methodical defensive clinic for Michigan here.
(6) Baylor over Oklahoma State:
It would be better for Oklahoma, and the Big 12(10) as a whole, to have a de-facto conference championship game in Stillwater for Bedlam. I just don’t think it’s going to happen. Oklahoma State has lived dangerously all conference season, and with all due respect to TCU and Texas Tech, they haven’t faced an offense like Baylor’s. Oklahoma State would need explosive plays to beat Baylor. I just don’t think they have it, particularly in the run game.

(5) Memphis over Temple:
I have no confidence left in that Temple defense after giving up 40 to SMU and getting handled by South Florida. Memphis likely has the best offense in the AAC. I highly doubt the Temple defense can slow them down. This could become a blowout.
(4) Pittsburgh over Louisville:
This is getting down to the point where I don’t have a lot of confidence in any of the picks left. Pitt has played well lately, including putting a scare into Notre Dame a couple of weeks ago. They have a solid defense and a balanced offense, but this is going to be a tough game. I like Pitt’s offense a little more than Louisville, so I will go with Pitt here.
(3) UCLA over Utah:
Which team had the most heartbreaking loss last week? I will say that UCLA likely lost to the better team. One reason I’m picking UCLA. The other? UCLA plays much better on the road than at home for whatever reason. Utah has also been good at home, but teams have figured them out, I believe. UCLA is the safer pick right now.
(2) Arkansas over Mississippi State:
This one worries me. Arkansas dominated LSU, a team that Mississippi State really struggled with. Arkansas also needs to come up with a win here or against Missouri to become bowl eligible. The Missouri one looks rather easy. This one won’t be. Regardless of the LSU outcome for both teams, I just think that Mississippi State is better put together on both sides of the ball, but can they recover from being trampled by Alabama? I have my doubts. I’m flipping to Arkansas.
(1) Wisconsin over Northwestern:
Northwestern hasn’t been the same since getting destroyed by Michigan. Wisconsin is one of the most quiet 8-2 teams in the country. This will likely be a close game decided by defense, but I will go with Wisconsin at home. That said, I won’t be one bit surprised if Northwestern wins this.
