New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman will likely be out for 6-8 due to a broken foot.
New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman went down with an injury at the end of the first quarter in Sunday’s game against the New York Giants; it was later determined that he had broken a bone in his foot. According to Albert Breer, Edelman had a screw inserted into his injured left foot and is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks of action.
Looking at the Patriots’ schedule within that timeframe, the best-case scenario has Edelman returning to the team in either Week 16 against the New York Jets or Week 17 against the Miami Dolphins – both games are road contests. The worst-case scenario would have Edelman back on the field for the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs. With New England all but certain to earn a first-round bye, that means the slot receiver would return just in time for the postseason run.
Edelman’s injury is not dissimilar to the Jones fracture that Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant suffered in Week 1 against the New York Giants; Bryant missed six weeks (five games).
This is not the first time Edelman has suffered a foot malady during his professional career. In 2012 we was placed on season-ending injured reserve after breaking his foot in a December game against the Miami Dolphins.
For the 2015 season, Edelman has 61 receptions, 88 targets, 692 yards and seven touchdowns.
