Grading out the top three finalists for NL Manager of the Year.
With Monday evening’s announcement of the respective Rookies of the Year in each league, MLB awards season is officially in full swing. And while the week began with the top newcomers being recognized, Tuesday shifts to honoring the top manager of the year for each league.
In the National League, the three candidates whom are up for the award – Joe Maddon of the Chicago Cubs, Terry Collins of the New York Mets and Mike Matheny of the St. Louis Cardinals – each come from a different path to the podium for the season’s top skipper. While one consistently overcame “cards” being taken out of his deck, another created the most undeniable upset division winner in recent memory. Then another successfully overcame the most the mythical goat in all of the sports in his first year in a new league.
Regardless of where they started, each portion of the trio has a very strong case for being considered the league’s top shot caller on the season.
With that, let’s take a look at the case for each candidate for NL Manager of the Year, which will be announced Tuesday evening, live on the MLB Network.
