Carolina Panthers quarterback and former Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton says he will vote Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson for Heisman.

With the Clemson Tigers just a few wins away from locking up a spot in the College Football Playoff, people are taking notice of their quarterback, Deshaun Watson. Watson, a sophomore, has helped lead the Tigers to the verge of being in play for a championship in 2015.

With his incredible play, Watson will certainly have a shot to become the Heisman Trophy winner in 2015, despite facing some tough competition with Alabama‘s Derrick Henry. While many see Henry as the favorite to take home the award, Watson does have the support of another former Heisman winner.

According to Charlotte AP writer Steve Reed, former Heisman winner Cam Newton has said that he will be giving his vote to Deshaun Watson this season.

It’s certainly easy to connect the dots between both quarterbacks, as they both have the uncanny ability to make plays with their legs just as much as their arms because of their dual-threat ability. With the way the Tigers have played this season, if they do indeed make the College Football Playoff with No. 1 ranking, they deserve a ton of accolades for their success.

Watson might not win the Heisman, but he will certainly end up getting his fair share of votes. Watson has been absolutely dynamic for the Tigers in 2015. He has passed for 2,593 yards and 23 touchdowns, while racking up 594 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

There’s a lot of similarities between what Watson is doing this year, to what Newton was doing in 2010. That’s why when it comes time to vote, Newton has picked Watson as his vote.
