DeMarcus Cousins lost his temper again

DeMarcus Cousins is one of the best big men in the NBA and arguably the biggest semblance of hope for the Sacramento Kings. Despite his immense talent, though, he’s always had at least somewhat of an attitude problem on the court and off it. Those on the court problems resurfaced on Wednesday night as the Kings took on the Atlanta Hawks.

Cousins was down low jostling for position on a potential rebound with Hawks big man Al Horford. Apparently Horford made a move that Cousins didn’t particularly care for, because the Kings big man fell back, gathered himself, and then pretty blatantly threw an elbow that glanced off Horford’s jaw:

From the look on Cousins’ face, the situation, and the move he makes, it’s abundantly clear that he was throwing a blow at Horford’s face. Unbelievably, the referees didn’t call a thing on the play and Cousins got off scotch-free. It’s one thing for the officials to let big men be physical in the post, but I don’t think that ever involves letting them throw elbows at faces.

There’s no denying that Cousins has progressed as a basketball player into a near unstoppable force. However, his attitude and maturity haven’t followed the same trajectory. He’s not hitting guys in the face every time he steps on the floor, but the fact that he’s still doing that type of thing at all pretty much says what you need to know.
