The Miami Marlins are exploring trading young ace Jose Fernandez. Here are five potential trade destinations for the starting pitcher.

The Miami Marlins have reportedly put Jose Fernandez on the trading block. This is a unique situation for several reasons. First of all, Fernandez is a young and controllable top of the rotation pitcher. He has three years of team control left. All of those years are arbitration years and his first one is likely not going to get him that much money thanks to his Tommy John surgery in 2014. Pitchers of Fernandez’s caliber (career 2.40 ERA) and age, 23, rarely become available on the trade market.

Secondly, this could provide an opportunity for teams to get an ace for a relatively cheap price. Fernandez is coming off Tommy John surgery and has thrown just 116 1/3 innings over the past two seasons. This is a great opportunity for teams to get Jose Fernandez before he inevitably proves that he’s still an ace in 2016 and his price increases.

Teams should be aggressive in pursuing Jose Fernandez. It will take quite a package to pry him loose from the Marlins. Here are five teams who could accomplish that.
