Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks have been quite proactive in the trade market over the past year. They were interested in acquiring Aroldis Chapman at the trade deadline. It’s clear that the Diamondbacks are willing to be aggressive to get guys who improve their chances of winning. Fernandez would definitely do that. He would give them the ace that they have lacked since they had Randy Johnson.

The Diamondbacks have the pieces to get a trade for Fernandez done. They have a number of young middle infielders and pitchers to offer. The Diamondbacks could also offer one of their young outfielders if that’s what the Marlins want. They have an underrated prospect pool and that could help their chances of trading for Fernandez.

Fernandez would give Arizona an ace. The Diamondbacks aren’t a big market team and they aren’t the best at developing their players. A trade is probably their best option to get an ace. They already have Patrick Corbin, Archie Bardley, and Robbie Ray. Each of them are pretty solid pitchers. What they lack is an ace. If they can get Jose Fernandez without giving up any of those three pitchers, they could have a talented and exciting rotation in 2015. It might even be enough for them to compete for a wild card spot.
