Report: Brandon Weeden claimed by Houston Texans
After being released by the Dallas Cowboys, quarterback Brandon Weeden was claimed on waivers by the Houston Texans.
It didn’t take long for Brandon Weeden to find another home in the NFL.
After being released by the Dallas Cowboys this week, Weeden has been quickly snatched up on waivers by the Houston Texans according to Ian Rapoport.
So while Weeden gets to stay in the state of Texas, albeit a bit south, he now joins a team that is suddenly in contention to win their division.
Despite struggling to start the season, the Texans are still alive in a much maligned AFC South. The Texans came away with a huge win on the road Monday night, when they defeated the then undefeated Cincinnati Bengals and showed that they have some fight still left in them.
The problem for the Texans is that despite coming away with the big win, they lost their quarterback Brian Hoyer early in the game and he’s questionable for this week’s game against the New York Jets. The Texans fought through the injury at quarterback with T.J. Yates on Monday, but with Hoyer’s diagnosis up in the air, it made sense that the Texans needed another quarterback on the roster.
Whether or not it means that Weeden will be there for the long term remains to be seen. The former first-round pick did not have much success this season for the Cowboys, and the team elected mid-season to trade for Matt Cassel instead. With Tony Romo coming back, that made Weeden the odd man out in Dallas.
He appears to have found a new home in Houston, for now.
