Avisail Garcia being shopped by White Sox
The Chicago White Sox are letting teams know that they are open to trading young outfielder Avisail Garcia after a disappointing 2015 season.
The White Sox traded Jake Peavy in a three-team deal back in 2013. The biggest piece that they got back for him was outfielder Avisail Garcia from the Detroit Tigers. They might be giving up on him after two seasons and the White Sox have let teams know that Garcia is available.
From CSN Chicago:
"They haven’t moved on from Avisail Garcia, but the White Sox have let teams know the outfielder can be acquired in the right deal. With several positions of need, not many big league assets to trade and a replacement lined up, the White Sox have entertained offers for the young right fielder this month, according to major league sources."
Garcia has had a disappointing tenure with the White Sox despite displaying a lot of potential. That potential hasn’t translated into results yet. He had a .257 batting average with a .309 on-base percentage and a .365 slugging percentage in 2015 with 13 home runs and 59 RBIs in 601 plate appearances. His lack of plate discipline has frustrated White Sox fans, especially since he’s not making much contact to justify his free-swinging ways. His .674 OPS is unacceptable from a corner outfielder who doesn’t do much defensively.
Despite Avisail Garcia’s struggles, there will likely be a number of teams that will be interested in him because of his upside. He’s also very cheap and could benefit from a change of scenery. Teams who could use an extra outfielder should express interest in him.
The White Sox will likely seek prospects in return for Avisail Garcia. Their farm system is arguably one of the worst in all of baseball. The White Sox are a rebuilding team with a weak farm system. That’s something that they’d probably like to change. Trading Garcia could be the first step to replenishing their farm system.
