Bryce Harper wins 2015 NL MVP
After an incredible season in Washington, Bryce Harper has been named the 2015 NL MVP.
When Bryce Harper was drafted by the Washington Nationals, everyone knew that he had superstar potential and was going to be great one day. In 2015, he finally took that next step to becoming one of the elite players in the game and now he has been awarded with his first NL MVP award.
On Thursday, the BBWAA officially named Harper the MVP for 2015. He was the seventh unanimous winner in history. To win the MVP award, Harper beat out Paul Goldschmidt of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds. He led the league in several offensive statistical categories and his bat almost carried the Washington Nationals to a playoff spot.
Even though they didn’t get there, it can’t be denied that Harper’s 42 home runs and 118 RBI’s played a big part in the team staying competitive. Even more impressively is the fact that Harper also walked 124 times and scored 118 runs this season.
Add in the fact that he is just 22 years old and Harper could remain on top of the National League for a very long time. 2015 was a disappointing season for the Nationals. With all the talent on the team, they could just not put together a run for the playoffs and ended up just missing out.
They now will look to rebound with Dusty Baker at the helm. If Harper as he gets older can get even better than he already is, then it’s going to be a scary sight for pitchers around the league that have to deal with him on a daily basis.
Bryce Harper has always been regarded as a very special talent in this league. Now he’s finally won his first MVP. In all likelihood, it’s going to be the first of many for Harper as his career marches forward.
