Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has an extremely outgoing personality. Why? Because celebrating takes him to his happy place.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has been the center of attention ever since he came into the NFL. Part of the reason why he always manages to find his way into the headlines has been because of his flamboyant celebrations. Newton spoke up in a recent interview and said that opponents can hate away because he isn’t going to stop dancing anytime soon.

“It takes me to a happy place,” Newton said, via ESPN. “I remember when I was in high school I used to look up to guys and mimic [them]. Now they’re doing the things I do. People are looking at you whether you want them or not. When I see people do the celebration I do, it makes me happy.”

Newton stepped up his celebration game on Sunday against the Titans when he scored late in the game. He busted out an old school move: dabbing. Don’t know what dabbing is? Here you go.

A Tennessee Titans fan who happens to be a mom did not take kindly to Cam Newton’s dancing and wrote into the Charlotte Observer and expressed his disappointment in Newton. She saw it as egotistical and inappropriate.

“I don’t know about your family life Mr. Newton, but I think I’m safe in saying thousands of kids watch you every week,” she wrote. “You have amazing talent and an incredible platform to be a role model for them. Unfortunately, what you modeled for them today was egotism, arrogance and poor sportsmanship.”

Cam Newton responded to those comments in an interview.

“Everybody is entitled to their own opinion,” Newton said, via Bleacher Report. “You can’t fault her for that. It is what it is. If she feels offended, I’ll apologize to her, but at the end of the day, I am who I am. I’m not doing it to be disrespectful to nobody, more so just doing it just to shine light and get people a smile and having fun doing what I do.”

You can dance if you want to Cam.
