Christine Michael has a new NFL home, albeit a practice squad role with the 4-5 Washington Redskins.
According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the Washington Redskins have signed running back Christine Michael to their practice squad. The three-year NFL veteran last played for the Dallas Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys cut Michael on Tuesday along with quarterback Brandon Weeden. In a matter of days, both former Cowboys signed with new teams: Weeden to Houston and Michael to Washington. In five games with the Dallas Cowboys, Michael had 15 rushing attempts for 51 yards before owner/general manager Jerry Jones decided to part ways with the former tailback of the Texas A&M Aggies. Interestingly, Michael’s replacement in Dallas is none other than his former Seattle Seahawks teammate Robert Turbin.
Though Michael is only 24 years of age, he is on his third NFL team in three seasons. After being a second-round pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2013, he didn’t make the impact necessary for Seattle to keep him around. He signed with the Dallas Cowboys this past offseason.
In 19 career NFL games in three seasons, Michael has 67 rushing attempts for 305 yards and two receptions for 14 yards, never having been in the end zone in his NFL career.
The move to sign with the Washington Redskins practice squad is an interesting one. While Washington has two talented tailbacks in Alfred Morris and Matt Jones, should anything happen to either back in the next two weeks, Michael could have the opportunity to play against his former employer for the second time this season.
Michael played the Seahawks while he was with Dallas on November 1. He could play Dallas on December 7 should he be elevated from the Redskins practice squad by then. This seems like a depth move for Washington should they need an able-bodied running back as they continue their playoff push. If they could essentially benefit from rival Dallas’ misfortunes in the process, even better for the Redskins.
