DeMarcus Cousins suspended for Thursday’s game against Heat
DeMarcus Cousins will serve a one game suspension without pay and miss tonight’s game against the Miami Heat
DeMarcus Cousins threw an elbow at Atlanta Hawks forward Al Horford in Wednesday night’s 103-97 loss for the Sacramento Kings. As a result, the Kings center has been suspended without pay (again), although this time it’s just for Thursday’s game against the Miami Heat.
Here is the clip from Wednesday night where Cousins clearly loses his cool for a few seconds and takes a whack at Horford:
What’s amazing is that all three referees actually missed this live, and that it was only after review that the NBA decided to intervene and suspend Cousins for one game.
The Kings are off to a paltry 4-8 start, and there are rumors abound that there is clear tension in the organization between head coach George Karl and the team’s star player. However, that was debunked less than a week ago when Cousins came out publicly to defend his head coach. Kings General Manger and former player Vlade Divac also supports Karl and has come out saying his job, for now, is secure,
To say Cousins has been an animal this season is a total understatement. The 25-year-old is averaging a career-high 27.5 points per game to go with 11.1 rebounds per game. Cousins barely made his first All-Star team last year, but on his current pace, he seems like a lock to end up on the team this season.
The bigger question is: can the Kings co-exist on the floor with Rajon Rondo leading the way between now and then? And if they can’t, does that mean Karl is a sitting duck and dead man walking?
