Teddy Bridgewater has been compared to Joe Montana. Seriously.

The Minnesota Vikings are 7-2 and leading the NFC North, and you have to give credit to quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. The 2014 first-round pick has been solid in his second year, but helping Minnesota stay on schedule.

Still, Bridgewater has not been amazing either. The former University of Louisville star ranks 26th in passing yardage and only has seven touchdown passes, tied for 29th in the league with Nick Foles. Yet, former NFL head coach Greg Schiano believes that Bridgewater is developing tremendously, giving him perhaps the ultimate comparison, per Bleacher Report.

"“This may be a little bit weird, but I look at Teddy Bridgewater, and he reminds me of a young Joe Montana,” Schiano said. “He’s accurate, he’s just mobile enough to give you real fits and he’s a smart quarterback. He’s got weapons around him. That’s why I think his ceiling is sneaky.”"

This is shocking. Look, Schiano says some pretty strong stuff in his analyst role, but comparing Bridgewater to Montana? In his second season, Montana was busy leading 27-point comebacks and starting to make folks believe the San Francisco 49ers were not that far away. In his third year? Montana won the first of his four Super Bowls, beginning his journey toward being the greatest quarterback of all-time.

The idea of Bridgewater’s mobility and accuracy being Montana-like is also a stretch. Montana was not a runner but worked the pocket with the grace of a dancer, having some of the best feet of all-time. Bridgewater is better at escaping the pocket.
