San Diego Chargers wide receiver Malcom Floyd has announced that he will retire at the end of the 2015 NFL season due to a shoulder injury.

Malcom Floyd has quietly had a solid career in the NFL. He will be calling it quits at the end of this season after a torn labrum cost him his 2015 season. He was planning on calling it quits even before the shoulder injury. He confirmed in a recent interview that his plans have not changed.

“I’m going to stick to the original plan, unfortunately,” Floyd said, via the San Diego Union Tribune. “I’m going to miss it. I’ll tell you that.”

He tore his labrum against the Chicago Bears on November 9th. There were whispers that Floyd might come back for one more season after this year because of the injury, but sadly it looks like NFL fans have seen the last of Malcom Floyd on the football field.

The 6’5″ 225-pound receiver went undrafted and signed with the Chargers in 2004. He spent his entire career with San Diego. He’ll finish his last season with 21 receptions for 409 yards and three touchdowns. He’ll end his career with 312 receptions for 5398 receiving yards and 34 touchdowns. He is 10th among all Chargers receivers in career receptions with 312. He is eighth in team history in career receiving yards. He is tenth in team history in career touchdowns. He ranks first in team history in yards per reception among those with at least 500 receptions.

Malcom Floyd will be remembered as an excellent teammate and as someone who got nothing handed to him during his football career. He fought for every yard that he got and he fought for his roster spot on a daily basis. He’ll be sorely missed not just by the Chargers, but by the NFL as well. The NFL is losing one of its fiercest players.
