Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice knows what Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy is going through and has some good advice for him.
Many people have commented on Greg Hardy and why he should or should not be allowed to play football. However, very few people know what he is going through right now. One of those people who knows exactly what Hardy is going through is former NFL running back Ray Rice.
“One thing I would encourage Greg (to do) is to take a deeper look into what the severity of domestic violence is,” Rice told WFAN’s Boomer and Carton. “It’s better late than never. You have to be sincere in your actions… Show it on and off the field. Take that uniform and use it for what it’s worth. You don’t have to win another football game, you don’t need another dollar to go out and make a difference in other peoples’ lives.”
That’s some pretty good advice from Rice and Greg Hardy could learn a lot from Rice’s experiences. The biggest difference between Hardy and Rice is that the former Ravens running back has shown remorse and is trying to better his life. Hardy hasn’t shown any remorse, at least not publicly. Rice has also been quite active in serving his community since he was cut by the Ravens. One might think that Rice is just trying to repair his image, but Rice was extremely active in community service long before his incident in Atlantic City.
“I do want to play football again,” Rice said. “If I don’t have a second chance on the field with the NFL, I would love to work with them to help make a difference, speak to rookies or anybody else they wanted me to. I know I can make a difference.”
Ray Rice gets it. He’s seeing his domestic violence incident as a way to continue to help and educate others. Hopefully Hardy can learn something from Rice. Hardy’s an incredible talent and it would be a shame to see it wasted. All NFL players could learn from Rice. He’s a wise man who realizes that football players are in a very unique position to make a difference in the world.
