The Peak, Weak, and Sneak of the Week!

If you are new to the article, thank you for reading! The ‘Peak, Weak, and Sneak of the Week’ column will be a weekly article about three quarterbacks that I believe could impact your DraftKings lineup in a positive or negative manner. The three categories are below:

Peak – A quarterback I like most this week, based on matchup, and their cost.

Weak – A quarterback who a lot of analysts are high on, or has a large price tag that will not be worth their cost.

Sneak – A quarterback sleeper for the week. A low-cost quarterback with boom potential.

Sadly, the New Orleans Saints and their terrible defense have a bye week, so we will explore other quarterback options. Let us begin.

‘Peak of the Week’ – Peyton Manning…Just kidding. Derek Carr: ($6300) – Carr was my first ever ‘Sneak of the Week,’ and now he will be the first quarterback to drive his way from ‘Sneak’ to ‘Peak.’

Derek Carr and the Raiders get to face off against a Detroit Lions defense who has given up the 3rd most fantasy points on average to quarterbacks at 20.32 a game. The Lions, as a team, have a -10 turnover differential in no help to their defensive backs, who have intercepted just 4 passes over 9 games.

The Lions currently sit at 26th in allowing yards per pass attempt (3.9 yards per).  Here comes Derek Carr.  Carr has been on a tear as of late, slinging the ball all over the field, throwing for over 300 yards in 3 straight games, while passing for 2 or more touchdowns in his past 4 contests.

With Carr being the 9th most expensive quarterback this week, and his favorable match-up against the Lions, I’m going to sit back, relax, and take a ride with Carr to victory. I suggest you do the same.

‘Weak of the Week’ –Matt Ryan ($7100) – Matt Ryan is the third most expensive QB behind only Tom Brady ($8,500) and Aaron Rodgers ($7,500).  Ryan and the Falcons are coming off a bye week and will play against the Indianapolis Colts in Atlanta.

The Colts defense is just okay against the pass, allowing 287.4 yards per game (24th best in the league), allowing 1.8 touchdowns and intercepting 1.1 passes per game.  In terms of fantasy points, the Colts give up the 13th most fantasy points to quarterbacks at 18.71, per game.

You may ask yourself, Joey, why are you not sold on Matt Ryan this week? Well, I believe the Falcons will run the ball with Devonta Freeman to victory. The Colts are giving up 20.06 fantasy points per game to running backs (12th most in the league) while allowing 1.0 rushing touchdowns per game.  Devonta Freeman coming off a bye week, at home, looks like a recipe for a big week.

I believe Matt Ryan will have a solid game, but he has had 5 interceptions in his last 5 games, while only throwing 6 touchdowns. With Ryan’s high price tag, a Boston College background (still upset over that last second victory against Virginia Tech in 2007), and Devonta Freeman running around the Georgia Dome, I’m staying away from Ryan.

‘Sneak of the Week’ – Tony Romo ($6,000) – Hear me out.  The ‘Sneak’ is clearly a risky pick, and this one comes in as the riskiest one up to this point.  After having his collar-bone shattered against the Philadelphia Eagles in week 2, the Cowboys offense has not been the same. The Cowboys have lost their last 7 games, while having to start former New York Yankee, not Giant, Yankee Brandon Weeden and journeyman Matt Cassel at quarterback.

Romo is the ultimate boom or bust candidate this week.  In all likelihood, Romo will have to work off some rust as gameplay is clearly faster and more difficult than practice.  Luckily, Romo is behind one of the best offensive lines in the league and has the luxury of throwing to one of the best receivers in the game in Dez Bryant.

Romo and the Cowboys face off against the Miami Dolphins.  The Dolphins defense come into this game allowing 272 yards a game through the air.  While allowing 18.58 fantasy points per game, the Dolphins give up almost 2 touchdown passes (1.9) per game, while intercepting less than one pass a game (0.8).

If you like Romo even a little bit this week, take a shot.  What’s life without a little risk?
