Georgia Southern is selling t-shirts inspired by the Nick Saban Tin Horn rant about the Eagles during Alabama’s press conference before Charleston Southern.

The Georgia Southern Eagles are a former Division I-AA powerhouse making the move to Division I. They won the Sun Belt Conference outright in 2014 in their first year in Division I, but weren’t able to play in a bowl game as part of their transition process. At 7-2, the Eagles have a road date with big brother Georgia in Athens this Saturday.

Though the underdog against Georgia, there is more publicity surrounding the Georgia Southern program that normal because of a Nick Saban rant about a “tin horn” and the Eagles took the college football world by storm. Georgia Southern is capitalizing on Saban’s rant by making two different t-shirts on sale in Statesboro.

What sparked the famous Nick Saban rant was a comment about FCS Charleston Southern starting a quarterback with Division I experience while at UAB. Rather than answer the question, Saban went in a tirade about the potent triple option attack of the Georgia Southern Eagles, who “ran through the [Alabama defense] like [expletive] through a tin horn. We could not stop them. We could not stop them. Could not stop them.”

Georgia Southern is transitioning to Division I quicker than most though possible. Their only two losses this year are to Mountaineers (West Virginia and Sun Belt rival Appalachian State). The program that finds strength in the old Erk Russell acronym “GATA” now has a new phrase to gather around in the Tin Horn rant.

The shirts are a huge hit in Statesboro and the Eagles are still in the mix for a Sun Belt title, as well as gearing up for the programs’ first ever bowl game. If Nick Saban thinks highly of the Georgia Southern football program, then it sounds foolish not to.
