LSU Tigers vs. Ole Miss Rebels

After looking like a team that could find their way into the College Football Playoff while being led by a Heisman Trophy candidate, the LSU Tigers will head into Vaught-Hemingway Stadium for a matchup with the Ole Miss Rebels after losing two-straight games. Leonard Fournette has seen his Heisman prospects dry up over the Tigers’ two consecutive losses, but he and Brandon Harris will still be leading Les Miles’ LSU team into this SEC matchup. The home team in Ole Miss are coming out of a week off after losing an overtime game the week before and will be looking for Chad Kelly and Laquon Treadwell to step up and help them rebound on Saturday afternoon in Oxford.

Keys to Victory

On the season as a whole, the LSU Tigers have been averaging 33 points per game. However, they’ve combined to score just a meager 30 points over their two consecutive losses. It’s no coincidence that the Tigers’ offensive struggles have gone hand-in-hand with the struggles of Leonard Fournette. Fournette is the workhorse and the heart of this LSU team as a whole. Les Miles has to find a way to keep getting Fournette the pigskin and letting him go to work against the Rebels. If that fails to happen, so to will the Tigers fail on Saturday.

While stopping Fournette with the likes of Robert Nkemdiche on the defensive side of the ball will be important, quarterback Chad Kelly holds the most important key to victory for the Rebels. Kelly has shown the ability to move the ball down the field at a high level with both his arm and his legs. However, Kelly is also a player that has been prone to letdown games where he turns the ball over frequently and seems to struggle with his decision-making. He can’t do that on Saturday if he want to lead Ole Miss to victory.

Prediction

Despite not showing anything over the past couple of weeks, I like this matchup for Fournette and the Tigers. I think this is going to be a close SEC matchup, but I think that LSU pulls through when it’s all said and done to avoid a disastrous losing streak.

Final Score: LSU Tigers: 27, Ole Miss Rebels: 24
