No. 18 TCU Horned Frogs vs. No. 7 Oklahoma Sooners

Things are looking pretty grim for the TCU Horned Frogs right now as they prepare for their trip to Norman to face the Oklahoma Sooners. Losing Trevone Boykin to start last week’s game against Kansas led to a lethargic offensive showing and the Heisman-contending quarterback could even miss this week’s contest as well.

If TCU plays anything like it did against the Jayhawks last week, there is zero chance it’ll be able to beat the Sooners on the road. In other bad news, star receiver Josh Doctson has been officially ruled out for this one, and also the remainder of the season as he might be eligible to return for the team’s bowl game. When it rains, it pours.

Oklahoma is skyrocketing in national perception. Although losing to Texas is a no-no, especially with how extremely poor the Longhorns have played this season, the Sooners have bounced back to put together a string of solid wins.

Baker Mayfield is playing like a Heisman candidate at quarterback and he might just be the top gunslinger in the entire conference. He is just what this Oklahoma offense needed after it had struggled to find a clear starter over the past few seasons.

Keys to Victory

TCU Horned Frogs

If Boykin doesn’t play, the pressure will almost undoubtedly be all on the run game and the defense. Since the defense has been awful this season, we will focus on running back Aaron Green and backup quarterback Bram Kohlhausen — pretty awesome name.

Green will need to really take it to Oklahoma on the ground and score at least two touchdowns to get this offense going. If Boykin doesn’t play, then Kohlhausen will need to just do damage control and limit turnovers. It’s going to be difficult for him to have a big day without Doctson.

Oklahoma Sooners

Since the loss to Texas, the Sooners have scored no less than 44 points which happens to be a pretty incredible achievement over a five-game stretch. Mayfield is going to need to take advantage of another poor defense and stick it to the Horned Frogs.

Samaje Perine will be used a pretty good amount as well, but the Sooners can’t let a backup quarterback without the No. 1 receiver come in and be able to throw the ball all over the field. The Sooners’ defense will need to really come alive like it has been.

Betting Odds

Point Spread: Oklahoma
Moneyline: Oklahoma , TCU
O/U: 53

Prediction

This one is going to be a high-scoring affair, only because I’m going to assume Boykin ends up playing because he’s such a competitor. However, Doctson’s absence will loom large and TCU won’t have an answer for the red-hot play of Baker Mayfield. The Sooners get a late 14-point lead before TCU makes it interesting in garbage time.

Final Score: TCU 35, Oklahoma 42
