5 potential landing spots for Colin Kaepernick
By David Rouben
Five teams where Colin Kaepernick could land, assuming he’s played his last game with the San Francisco 49ers.
Colin Kaepernick’s season in San Francisco has been one of the biggest falls from graces in recent sports history. It was only three years ago that his team was within a win of the Super Bowl. Now with seven games left to play, Kaepernick has been placed on the season-ending injured reserve.
As reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN, Dylan Thompson has been promoted from the practice squad to become the 49ers’ new backup QB behind Blaine Gabbert. Kaepernick told the team that he wanted to have surgery on his non-throwing shoulder, which is an indication that he had given up on his season. In Gabbert’s first start of the season, he led the 49ers to a 17-16 win over the Atlanta Falcons.
The 49ers’ poor season has been due to a number of factors: the unexpected retirements of Chris Borland and Patrick Willis, the jettisoning of Jim Harbaugh, and Carlos Hyde’s injuries to name a few. Yet Kaepernick’s play has been at the center of it all. He’s gone from a playoff-caliber quarterback to a turnover machine, and he is completely devoid of confidence. Losing key members of his offensive line hasn’t helped, but he is ultimately the reason for his own downfall.
With that being said, Kaepernick is still a young quarterback and a change of scenery is clearly the best option for him at this point. There are plenty of NFL teams that need a quarterback, and he has playoff experience to his name. Following are five teams he could potentially find himself on in 2016.
