The Seahawks took care of business against the 49ers behind Thomas Rawls’ breakout performance.

13. 42. Final. 29. 36

If the Seattle Seahawks were worried how their offense was going to look with Marshawn Lynch having to sit out due to injury against the San Francisco 49ers, they shouldn’t have been. Thomas Rawls stepped in as the backup to Lynch and was an absolute superstar for Seattle. The 49ers had trouble tackling him in the running game as Rawls was quick through the holes, shifty in open space, and a bulldozer when meeting defenders head-on. Moreover, he was a threat in the receiving game as he, in just this one game, pretty firmly established himself as the future of the Seahawks at the running back position.

It wasn’t just Rawls contributing to the Seahawks attack, though. Russell Wilson looked like the quarterback of old rather than the shell of himself that he’d been at times in recent weeks. He was making smart throws and making big plays, particularly two beautiful touchdown passes to rookie speedster Tyler Lockett. Blaine Gabbert was decent for the 49ers against the vaunted Seahawks defense, but his efforts weren’t prolific enough without Carlos Hyde flanking him and with the Seattle offense rolling on all cylinders. Both of these teams came into this game needing something positive to happen, but it was Seattle who made those things happen and looked like a team poised to make a move into playoff position in the second half of the season.

Three stars

Thomas Rawls filled in for the injured Marshawn Lynch and performed like a superstar. The Seahawks running back finished the day with 209 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground along with three catches for 46 yards and another touchdown in the passing game.

Blaine Gabbert may not have won his team the game, but they would have lost by 50 points if not for Gabbert. The quarterback finished the day with 264 yards passing, one touchdown, no interceptions, and 20 yards rushing.

Russell Wilson showed up in a big way for the Seahawks in this game, throwing for 260 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions and also accruing 33 yards rushing.
