Washington Redskins kicker Dustin Hopkins didn’t get off to a great start
The Washington Redskins were always going to have a tough task ahead of them in Week 11 as they went on the road to play the unbeaten Carolina Panthers. Washington needed to get off to a good start to get the momentum going in their favor and get things rolling against one of the best teams in the league. Kicker Dustin Hopkins failed miserably in doing so right away.
Washington kicked off to start the game and, as Hopkins approached the teed up ball to get the game underway, he lost his footing on his run-up. Subsequently, he was slipping and falling to the ground when he kicked the ball, resulting in a terrible low, bouncing kick:
The Redskins traditionally get a lot of flack for their moments of incompetence and, when your kicker is starting off games like this, it’s not difficult to understand why. Even if you aren’t up against an undefeated team, slipping on the opening kickoff isn’t the ideal course of action.
Washington was able to recover and stop the Panthers on the ensuing drive. Of course, they fouled things up once again on their first offensive drive as Kirk Cousins overthrew a pass over the middle that was intercepted. Such is life for a Washington fan.
