Broncos confirm Peyton Manning will be benched again
By Ian O'Brien
There will be no Tom Brady vs Peyton Manning match on Sunday Night Football, as the Broncos have confirmed that Brock Osweiler will start again.
Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is on his last limb in the NFL, and the Broncos finally made the decision to bench him in their Week 10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Longtime backup Brock Osweiler finally got his chance against the Chicago Bears, and he responded with a solid game while leading the Broncos to victory.
Chris Mortensen reported that the Broncos will stick to the plan and start Osweiler for the second straight week.
Manning struggled throughout this season, despite leading the Broncos to a 7-2 start. He leads the league in interceptions with 17, and he experienced the worst game of his career against the Chiefs despite breaking the all-time record for passing yards. He was held to 35 yards and four interceptions before Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak finally had enough. Osweiler was handed the reins and may claim the starting job going forward.
Osweiler will be taking on the ultimate challenge after passing his first test. He will lead the Broncos in their quest to give the New England Patriots their first loss, which was narrowly avoided in a road comeback win over the New York Giants. The Broncos have put together what is widely viewed as the best defense in the NFL, so Osweiler will have that going for him. However, he will need to do his part to keep up with Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
The Broncos currently have an 8-2 record after snapping a two-game losing streak, but they have already made some of the best offenses in the NFL look ordinary, so Brady will have his biggest defensive test ahead of him on Sunday Night Football.
