DeAndre Hopkins gained the upper hand over Darrelle Revis, and he didn’t hesitate to let the Jets cornerback know about it.

Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has emerged as arguably the best wide receiver in the NFL, as he leads the league in touchdown catches with nine while ranking third in catches (76) and receiving yards (1,045). He continued to cement himself as an elite receiver in the Texans’ win over the New York Jets, as he burned Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis for a 61-yard touchdown catch. Hopkins finished with five catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns in that game. According to ESPN, Hopkins mocked Revis after the game.

“Yeah, of course. It’s ‘Revis Island,’ as y’all say,” Hopkins said while using air quotes to describe Revis Island.

Revis is widely known as the best cornerback in the NFL, which has earned him the nickname Revis Island. The Jets defense has been able to return to being one of the most dangerous units in the NFL since Revis returned to the team, but even he can be vulnerable at times, as Hopkins demonstrated. Hopkins has been able to produce at a high level despite having Brian Hoyer, Ryan Mallett and T.J. Yates as his quarterbacks. Despite mocking Revis with air quotes, Hopkins still acknowledged that he took on a major challenge and had to stay disciplined to succeed.

“A guy like Darrelle Revis has been in the NFL a long time. They study tendencies. They know what you’re doing from the way you line up. When you run a route, you almost have to be perfect at it. You can’t slip. Timing has to be perfect with the quarterback going against a smart guy like him,” Hopkins said.

Hopkins and the Texans offense will have a much easier matchup ahead of them and perhaps the easiest one in the entire NFL. The Texans will take on the New Orleans Saints, who just fired Rob Ryan as their defensive coordinator. The Saints have allowed 1,378 passing yards and 17 touchdowns in their last four games, so it would be surprising if Hopkins does not put together another 100-yard receiving game.
