Fantasy Basketball: Waiver Wire

Waiver Wire

We are now over a month into the fantasy basketball season and your team is pretty much what you think it is.The good news is, that no matter how bad your team is right now, you can make some moves on the waiver wire and get you in shape for the second half of the season. My claim is that most head-to-head fantasy basketball seasons are won or lost on the waiver wire.

We will aim to highlight players that are owned in less than 50% of ESPN.com leagues and maybe a few other players that I find floating around in my competitive 10 team league.

Here are my waiver wire options for this week:

More from Fantasy

Point Guards:

Zach LaVine: LaVine is starting to average right around 30 minutes a game and with that amount of time will certainly prove to be a useful fantasy commodity. He will also become even more useful when Ricky Rubio misses time. Over the last several days LaVine is averaging 15 points a game with close to three dimes.

Jose Calderon: I know that he is not the guy that he used to be and he is an extremely injury-prone type of player. However, Calderon is playing pretty well over the past several days and deserves to be on fantasy rosters. He is probably not going to win your league for you, but he will certainly provide some useful stats along the way.

Shooting Guards:

Rodney Hood: Hood is getting around 35 minutes per game and is putting up some nice stats to go along with it. He is a great add and should continue to play well and only get better as long as his time is not cut. Give him a look of you are in need of a SG.

Jeremy Lamb: Lamb is playing well and providing a nice scoring punch. As of right now he is only seeing around 25 minutes per game, but my hope is that he will only see that number increase as the season rolls along.

Small Forwards:

Jae Crowder: At 49.4% ownership he barely still qualifies for being on this list, but if he is available in your league you better act quickly. Crowder is providing a nice scoring punch and seems to have settled nicely into the Celtics rotation. His numbers are solid over the past week and is hitting more threes which should keep his minutes right where they are.

Robert Covington: Covington has been battling with injuries for basically the entire season, but is beginning to put it together now. If he is on your waiver wire you will want to act quickly if you are in need of SF help as he will likely be in store for all the minutes he can handle. Give him a look if you need SF help.

Power Forwards:

Jeff Green: Green has not been playing that well this season, but had a nice three game stretch where he looked primed to break the slump and then dropped a dud in his last two games. The waiver wire is not full of PFs who are eligible for our list so you might want to add him and hope he can play his way out of the slump. He is seeing right at 30 minutes per game which should only help him.

Luis Scola: Scola is not going to be great anymore, but he is one of those guys who will pop out with a 20 points and eight rebound type of night every couple of games. He can fill a void for you in your front-court and plug some holes for you in your fantasy roster.

Center:

Andrew Bogut: There are not a great deal of options out here for us in the land of big men. If you are in need here you may need to land a trade or just give Bogut a go and hope he can find some consistency.

As always we thank you for stopping by and wish you all the best of luck.
