NBA: 5 disappointing teams so far this season
By John Buhler
4. Philadelphia 76ers (0-14)
The Philadelphia 76ers are actually worse than expected. They are the only franchise in the NBA without a win in 2015-16. Philadelphia’s hyper-tanking methods of general manager Sam Hinkie have the Sixers 0-14 out of the gate.
While many respect the job head coach Brett Brown is doing with a D-League roster, Philadelphia should have at least one win by now. Sure, 20 wins in 2016-16 seemed like a lofty goal, but this club may not get to 10. Even then, that only ensures the 76ers a 25% chance at winning the 2016 NBA Draft Lottery.
Though the defensive intensity under Brown is respectable given the roster’s makeup (107.3, 23rd in the NBA), it’s hard to overlook the worst rated offense in the NBA (92.8). The effort is there, but the pure lack of talent with the 76ers is starting to get old. Will the tanking philosophy of Sam Hinkie set will with 76ers fans for even one more season?
It seemed like promising youngsters Nerlens Noel, Jahlil Okafor, and Robert Covington would stand as just enough talent to get the Sixers a win before the end of November. While it was obvious from the start the franchise’s intentions entering the season, potentially seeing the far-too-soon reincarnation of the 7-59 2011-12 Charlotte Bobcats still felt like a stretch at the start of the year. The 2015-16 Philadelphia 76ers could end up the worst team in NBA history by season’s end.
Next: 3. Milwaukee Bucks (5-8)
