After some impressive seasons, Quinton Coples has been waived by the New York Jets with a disappointing start to this year.

Quinton Coples was once a first-round pick but is now finding himself unemployed midway through the season. The outside linebacker was waived by the New York Jets on Monday afternoon after the Jets fell to 5-5 with a loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday. This was the Jets’ second loss in a row.

Coples was living up to being drafted in the first round in his first three seasons, having at least 4.5 sacks and over 20 tackles each year. In his second and third season, he also forced a fumble. This year, however, has been less than impressive, especially when compared to his first three seasons.

This year, Coples had just four tackles and four more which were assisted. He has no sacks so far this year, and something appears to be really off with Coples. Coples has started just two of the Jets’ 10 games so far this season and has only had three games in which he completed a tackle.

Clearly, something needs to be changed for the Jets, who at one point looked promising this year. Despite an intimidating backfield with Antonio Cromartie and Darelle Revis, they’re struggling to win games. Cutting Coples may not be the tipping point that starts some wins for them, but it could get them going in the right direction.
