College Football Results Against The Spread Week 12

College Football Results Against The Spread Week 12
Week 11 was one of my best weeks in five years of doing this. I moved to 303-286 on the season and +53 on my points scale. While I have no delusions that I could do that well two weeks in a row, I think I did fairly well this week. My College Pick Em score was pretty good, so that usually translates to a decent week against the spread as well. Let’s find out for sure!

Here are the results against the spread for week 12. Winners against the spread are in BOLD. Here are the picks in case you would like to follow along!
Toledo at Bowling Green(-7.5): MISS! Toledo did a good job defensively on the Falcons. Tennessee allowed more points to BGSU than Toledo did!
Ball State at Ohio(-8.5): HIT! This was easy money. Picking BGSU to cover the Cardinals this week should be as well.
Central Michigan(-10.5) at Kent State: HIT! The beleaguered Flashes defense got knocked around some more.
Western Michigan at Northern Illinois(-3.5): MISS! I knew better. There is at least one game per week that I end up saying that about…..
East Carolina(-15.5) at Central Florida: HIT! UCF is just terrible. I feel sorry for them. It seems like yesterday (actually, it was two years ago) that the Knights were upsetting Baylor in a BCS Bowl…..
Louisiana-Monroe at Texas State(-6.5): HIT! The Bobcat rush defense even held the Warhawks to less than 100 yards rushing. They were allowing nearly 350 per game!
Cincinnati(-2.5) at South Florida: HIT! I really wish I would have put more points on this one. USF is going to be one of those teams that no one wants to play in a bowl game.
Air Force at Boise State(-12.5): HIT! I’m not sure that I expected the Falcons to win outright, but I knew this line was bogus.
North Texas at Middle Tennessee State(-23.5): HIT! North Texas is back to their old ways of getting covered once again.
Memphis(-1.5) at Temple: MISS! The Owls showed that they aren’t going to give up the AAC title that easily.
Florida Atlantic at Florida(-31.5): HIT! I knew it was too many, but I didn’t expect the Gators to need overtime to beat an eight loss team. Maybe November “cupcake week” for the SEC isn’t so easy after all. Just ask South Carolina…..
North Carolina(-5.5) at Virginia Tech: MISS! The Hokies kept it just a little bit too close here. If I were going to lose the bet anyway, I would have rather the Hokies won outright. Beamer deserved that much in his final home game!
Rutgers(-4.5) at Army: HIT! Nothing to see here, folks.
West Virginia(-27.5) at Kansas: MISS! So much for Kansas improving…..
Iowa State at Kansas State(-5.5): MISS! This was painful for me to watch at the end, and I’m not even an Iowa State fan. I can’t imagine how they feel….
Purdue at Iowa(-22.5): HIT! Glad I changed this Saturday morning!
Indiana at Maryland(-2.5): HIT! Take advantage of gifts like this. They don’t come along very often!
Illinois at Minnesota(-4.5): HIT! Who would have thought that the Gophers would be struggling to become bowl eligible?
Michigan(-3.5) at Penn State: HIT! How big is the Ohio State-Michigan game now? Well, not as big since it would have been for the East division title outright if the Buckeyes hadn’t choked.
Georgia Tech(-2.5) at Miami(FL): HIT! With all due disrespect to Minnesota, USC, Texas, and Oregon, Georgia Tech has to be the most disappointing team of the season.
Syracuse at North Carolina State(-17.5): HIT! If Dayes had been playing, I would have taken the Pack.
Miami(OH) at Massachusetts(-9.5): MISS! I want to see how well Blake Frohnapfel does at the combine when he has receivers to throw to and isn’t running for his life….
South Alabama at Georgia State(-2.5): MISS! Okay, I am really done flipping coins now. You don’t come here to see me flip a coin. You can do that from the comfort of your own couch.

Western Kentucky(-16.5) at Florida International: HIT! I can’t believe the Panthers were almost bowl eligible. This was an ugly, ugly game.
Fresno State at BYU(-23.5): HIT! It may be time to start moving some of these teams like Fresno and North Texas to FCS. If nothing else, then to give them a chance. They can come back in three years if they are an FCS playoff team.
Nevada at Utah State(-13.5): MISS! Even smart money is dumb sometimes.
Old Dominion at Southern Mississippi(-21.5): HIT! I was sweating this one until the beginning of the fourth quarter.
Louisiana Tech(-24.5) at UTEP: MISS! The Bulldogs stay alive in the CUSA race, but they sure looked awful doing it.
Houston(-10.5) at Connecticut: HIT! The line should have never been that high with Ward at far less than 100%.
Buffalo at Akron(-2.5): HIT! Akron is making me look smart lately.
LSU at Mississippi(-6.5): HIT! Okay, all this talk about firing Les Miles is absurd. Almost as absurd as Ole Miss beating LSU and Alabama in the same year but not winning the SEC West.
Wake Forest at Clemson(-29.5): HIT! Last year is was easy money to take whoever was playing Florida State. They almost never covered. Now it is out turn to take Clemson’s opponent. At least as long as the lines are this ridiculously high.
Duke at Virginia(-1.5): MISS! Where did that offense come from? Virginia only scored 40 points or more one other time this year, and that was in a shootout against Syracuse.
Arizona at Arizona State(-6.5): HIT! Even I underestimated the Devils. I only said ten! They won by 15.
USC at Oregon(-4.5): HIT! Hopefully you listened to me instead of those bozos on ESPN backing USC. I even underestimated the Ducks they won by twice as much (20) as I thought they would. Vernon Adams also became the only player – not Oregon player – player to throw six touchdowns against USC.
UCLA at Utah(-1.5): HIT! I seriously have to wonder if some of the people betting even watch football. Utah is nothing without Booker. The Bruins played a sloppy game, and still won by ten.
Northwestern at Wisconsin(-10.5): HIT! The officials stole this game from the Badgers, but they were still never a threat to cover this.
Michigan State at Ohio State(-13.5): MISS! This was the defense that Sparty has been missing all year long. So long as they don’t choke against Penn State, they still have an outside shot at the playoffs. Who would have thought after a miracle win against Michigan and an ugly loss at Nebraska.
Louisville at Pittsburgh(-1.5): HIT! The more Pitt wins, the better Iowa looks. Pitt is the best team Iowa has faced this year. Let that sink in for a minute. Now answer me this: Is there any way the Hawkeyes should be in the top four? Didn’t think so.
Idaho at Auburn(-33.5): MISS! I knew better than this too. Damn Idaho for losing to New Mexico State! It clouded my judgment.
New Mexico State at Louisiana-Lafayette(-16.5): HIT! This was just a dumb line to begin with. How about New Mexico State and Idaho both winning three games! Welcome back to the land of the (semi) living!
Colorado State(-2.5) at New Mexico: MISS! Thanks a lot, New Mexico. That’s the thanks I get for backing you?
Washington(-15.5) at Oregon State: MISS! I underestimated just how bad Oregon State is this year.
Mississippi State at Arkansas(-4.5): MISS! I don’t even care that I lost this. I just like watching entertaining games. This was certainly one of those!
Georgia Southern at Georgia(-13.5): MISS! Did I say Georgia had an SEC defense? My bad. I apologize to the rest of the SEC. Except Auburn. They gave up 34 points to Idaho!
Navy(-12.5) at Tulsa: HIT! I am sure going to miss watching Keenan Reynolds play football. At least we still have three games of him left! How high will the rushing touchdown record get?
Rice at UTSA(-2.5): MISS! I should have stopped after the afternoon games. I am having a rough night….
Tennessee(-7.5) at Missouri: MISS! I knew better.
Texas A&M(-2.5) at Vanderbilt: MISS! Where did Vandy’s offense disappear to?
Boston College at Notre Dame(-14.5): HIT! This was easy money as well.
Charlotte at Kentucky(-24.5): HIT! On a day where most of the SEC looked bad, Kentucky came through. Thank you Kentucky! Now back to the regularly scheduled losses in the SEC….
Baylor(-1.5) at Oklahoma State: HIT! You could see this coming from a mile away.
Tulane at SMU(-2.5): HIT! Even bad teams need something to look forward to. Finally SMU gets a good week in the film room.
TCU at Oklahoma(-11.5): MISS! For the record, there is no way TCU makes this a game if Baker Mayfield plays in the second half. And for those of you that still think Trevor Knight is good, I will tell you what I have been telling you for the last two years. HE IS NOT! He played the game of his life against Alabama, and has been living off of that since.
San Diego State(-15.5) at UNLV: HIT! Okay, so the Aztecs “only” ran 48 times. They still racked up 286 yards on the ground.
California at Stanford(-11.5): HIT! That was a little too close for comfort!
Colorado at Washington State(-15.5): HIT! Welcome back, Mike Leach! I’ve missed you!
San Jose State(-9.5) at Hawaii: HIT! The Hawaii boycott is going well also.

I met my goal for the week, and even went a little beyond, going 37-21 against the spread. That puts me at 340-307 on the season, which comes up to 52.5%. I am inching towards my goal! Since the bowl games are counted, I still have a chance to get to 55%. I also gained 52 points in my point system, putting me at a season best +105. Yes, Vegas would hate me!
Here is the full point breakdown. The season totals are in parenthesis:
1. 2-1 (33-32)
2. 13-8 (99-86)
3. 11-10 (116-113)
4. 8-1 (65-54)
5. 3-1 (27-22)
There is only one full week before the conference championship week hits. I need another good week to reach my season goal!
