Passing out awards for Week 11 of the NFL season

After a few weeks that could only be described as crazy, the status quo mostly returned to the NFL in Week 11. Time to hand out hardware for the best performances in this week. Let’s get to the names without any additional delay.

Offensive Rookie of the Week

Jameis Winston, QB Tampa Bay Buccaneers

When you connect on five touchdown passes, it is probably safe to assume that Rookie of the Week honors come along as well.

Jameis Winston had the best statistical game of his young career on Sunday in helping to lead the Bucs to a 45-17 blowout victory over the Eagles. Most impressively, he accumulated those five touchdown strikes without issuing an interception. Incredibly, the No. 1 overall pick from the past year’s NFL Draft needed only 29 passes (and 19 completions) to create five touchdowns – a highly efficient and workmanlike performance.

To be fair, much of this had to do with a putrid defensive effort from the Eagles, but the stats still count and Winston took full advantage of the opportunities provided to him by Philadelphia.

Runner-up: Thomas Rawls, RB Seattle Seahawks

Defensive Rookie of the Week

Arik Armstead, DE San Francisco 49ers

It wasn’t a great day at the office for the Niners, but Armstead stood out in a big way. He garnered the highest grade (via Pro Football Focus) of any player on the entire San Francisco Roster, and the former 17th overall pick from Oregon put together a day that included three QB hurries and a career-best six tackles.

Armstead was seen, at least by some, as an athletic freak that was very “raw” as he entered the draft, making this type of performance incredibly encouraging in the midst of his rookie campaign. San Francisco is a bit of a mess right now offensively, but the defense will be in good hands if players like Armstead continue to develop at this rate.

Runner-up: Adrian Amos, FS Chicago Bears
