Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch underwent surgery for a sports hernia injury on Wednesday.
The Seattle Seahawks rough season has just gotten a lot rougher. Star running back Marshawn Lynch underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia injury that he suffered in Seattle’s week 10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He was inactive during their week 11 game against the 49ers.
“To have one of the best running backs in the game makes my job a little bit easier, to have him out there making plays,” Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson said, via ESPN.com. “Just praying that he’s healthy, for his own sake, then also for our team’s sake. He’s a difference-maker for sure.”
One has to wonder if the punishment that he has endured since joining the Seahawks in 2010 has finally caught up to his body. He has carried the ball 1,457 times since being traded to the Seattle Seahawks from the Buffalo Bills in 2010, the most in the league since that time.
Marshawn Lynch will be out for an undetermined amount of time, but his season could be over. The 5-5 Seahawks will likely replace Lynch with undrafted rookie free agent running back Thomas Rawls, who has an NFL-best 5.98 yards per carry and has 101 carries for 604 yards this season.
