8. Jason Garrett leads Cowboys past Brett Favre, Packers (1994)

Jason Garrett still performs on Thanksgiving Day as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. However, he was making his mark on holiday football long before his coaching day, but rather in his playing days as a third-string quarterback. In 1994, both Aikman and the backup in Rodney Peete were injured, thrusting Garrett into action against the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre.

The game started out looking like it was going to go as well as starting a third-stringer normally does. Garrett’s first pass of the day was picked off and the Cowboys trailed by 11 going into halftime. However, Garrett cooked up a bit of magic for Dallas coming out of the locker room.

Garrett caught fire and led the Cowboys to scores on their first five drives of the second half. The now Dallas head coach finished the day with 311 passing yards and a victory under his belt as the Cowboys were victorious by a score of 42-31. Garrett put his name on the map, even if only for one game. It was an amazing out-of-nowhere story, but wasn’t even the greatest story of its kind in Cowboys lore. But well get more on that later in these rankings.
