Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire Pick-Ups

Now nearly five weeks into the fantasy basketball season, owners are still searching the waiver wire for that hidden piece that will take their team to the next level. Fear not, as these free agent pick-ups are worthwhile assets.

Robert Covington (Owned in 51% of ESPN Leagues)

As a team, the 76ers are a complete trainwreck, but that does not mean they lack any fantasy basketball value. One of the few bright spots of last year’s 76ers team was Robert Covington. Covington had proven himself as one of the the team’s lone skilled players, mixing a deadly 3-point shooting stroke with proficient rebounding.

After suffering a series of nagging injuries, Covington is finally back in the lineup, and has been producing at his usual high level. He has been averaging a solid 21 fantasy points per game, including an impressive 28 Point, 7 rebound, and 8 steal performance against the Rockets. Run, don’t walk to your league to pick him up, as he is a game-changer.

C.J. Miles (Owned in 49% of ESPN Leagues)

Known as a journeyman shooting guard, C.J. Miles has continued to prove himself as a bit of a late bloomer this year. With the Pacers opting for a small ball lineup focused around the 3-ball, Miles has received a big uptick in minutes, averaging a career-high 28 minutes per game.

  • With these extended minutes, Miles has been delivering a career-best performance, averaging 15.9 PPG alongside some impressive percentages (.46% FG and an outstanding 45% from 3). He doesn’t offer much help as far as assists or rebounds go (averaging 1.4 AST and 2.1 RBS per game), but is a decent add if he can keep his shooting up.

Marvin Williams (Owned in 57% of ESPN Leagues)

Williams is mostly remembered around NBA fan circles as the guy who was picked 2nd overall in the 2005 draft despite not even starting in college. While it’s not exactly fair to place all the blame on Williams, he has mostly been a journeyman tweener forward. However, it seems he has found a home in Charlotte.

Williams’ scoring is not anything spectacular (averaging 10.3 PPG), he has been a solid contributor in several categories. He has a solid five double doubles so far this season, with his 7 RPG being especially impressive. Averaging 31.5 MPG, Williams should be owned in nearly every league as long as he plays similar minutes the rest of the way.

T.J. Warren (Owned in 7% of ESPN Leagues)

Those looking for a deep sleeper should look towards this Suns forward. After a rather modest rookie season, Warren is finally getting some playing time at the small forward position, slowly passing P.J. Tucker.

With those minutes, Warren has looked surprisingly great, averaging a solid 12.5 PPG while shooting an impressive 53% FG. As he continues to get more and more comfortable in the Suns high-flying offense, Warren should become a full-time starter, being an intriguing add for those in need of scoring.
