Five NFL teams who should trade for Johnny Manziel
Dallas Cowboys
If there’s a general manager bold enough to trade for Johnny Manziel, it’s definitely Jerry Jones. Manziel would make sense for the Cowboys for a variety of reasons. First of all, Manziel would inevitably attract a ton of attention because he can’t keep himself out of the spotlight. Jerry Jones is an owner who is always looking for ways to stay relevant and in the headlines. Manziel pretty much writes his own headlines, both on and off the field.
It makes football sense for them too. Tony Romo is a great quarterback, but his recent injury history suggests that perhaps age has begun to catch up to him. The Cowboys need to have a backup capable of coming in and winning games. Dallas made an extremely unwise decision last offseason by not acquiring a legitimate backup. Relying on Matt Cassell and Brandon Weeden to fill in capably for Romo killed the Cowboys season. Jerry Jones won’t make that mistake again.
Johnny Manziel is an extremely talented passer who is still a bit immature. He could learn a lot from someone like Romo, who has done a great job managing his life and career. Unlike most coaches and players, Romo can understand what Johnny’s going through and could help groom him as his successor. He could teach Johnny Manziel how to manage his life both on and off the field.
