Carolina Panthers announce they’ve signed CB Cortland Finnegan

It looks like the Carolina Panthers have lured CB Cortland Finnegan out of retirement with announcement of signing.
Cortland Finnegan’s retirement plan seems to have taken an unexpected turn thanks to the Carolina Panthers inking up an offer the 31-year-old corner back couldn’t refuse. According to Bleacher Report earlier Monday, the Carolina Panthers have fulfilled the wishes of a corner back who revealed back in August, as training camps were finishing, that he wanted to make an NFL comeback.
Prior to signing with the Panthers, Finnegan got his NFL career start with the Tennessee Titans with a seventh pick of the seventh round back in 2006. After six years with the Titans, Finnegan moved on with Titans head coach Jeff Fisher to the St. Louis Rams signing a five-year $50 million deal. Two years into that deal, the Rams announced that they would be releasing Finnegan at the beginning of the new league year. Finally, after one year with the Miami Dolphins, Finnegan took the opportunity to retire shortly after being released.
Finnegan brings a career total of 111 starts, 18 interceptions, 86 passes defended and 465 tackles. According to defensive coordinator Sean McDermott,
"“Any time you can add a guy of Finnegan’s experience at this point in the year, you are excited about it. He plays our style of football – an aggressive, up-tempo, attacking style on the defensive side.”"
Finnegan looks like a solid addition to the Carolina Panthers that will bring some added defense and leadership to the team. From what we’ve seen, he’s never been a locker room issue as the media has pointed him out to be. On multiple occasions, Finnegan was awarded Nashville’s community man of the year and was voted team captain on more than one occasion by his teammates.
