Navy football unveiled a set of seven hand-painted helmets to be worn during the historic Army-Navy game.

Where else will you see the art world and college football clash in a mash-up of epic proportions than in these hand-painted helmets. According to Navy Sports, the Navy football team unveiled their Under Armour-designed “Navy Fleet” uniforms including these bespoke hand-painted helmets that will be worn during the historic Army-Navy game. While the uniform in and of itself is pretty awesome, the helmets deserve some special attention as each different helmet corresponds to a position group for the team.

According to Navy Sports here are the positions and corresponding ships,

"Linebacker: CruiserDefensive Back: Destroyer Wide Receiver: SubmarineLineman: Amphibious Assault ShipsQuarterback: Aircraft CarrierRunning Back: Littoral Combat ShipKicker/Special Teams: Minesweeper"

The ships themselves and the corresponding position were chosen strategically as well. For example, the Aircraft Carrier technically acts as a symbolic quarterback for the Naval Fleet being the “ultimate decision maker” and “quick strike” weapon of the Navy Fleet.  And the wide receiver’s stealth like attacks call’s for a Submarine being painted on the WR’s helmet.

We hope Navy unveils the artists behind these one of a kind helmets as they deserve as much credit as Under Armour for taking on such a tedious task. It’d be a shame to see these works of art take a beating come game day, but such is the life of a helmet.

The Army-Navy game is set to go down Dec. 12 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia at 3 P.M. on CBS. and we’re sure there will be no shortage of “You sunk my battleship” references peppered in throughout the game.
