Austin Davis will get the start for Week 13 and will be 24th different starting quarterback since 1999.
I feel for the Cleveland fan base. We all know the struggles of the Cleveland sports teams. It’s been 51 years since a major franchise brought a title to the city. The Cleveland Cavaliers was close on two occasions, but close isn’t good enough. The Cleveland Browns will not break the streak this season. Austin Davis will be under center in Week 13 against the Cincinnati Bengals, making him the 24th starting quarterback for the Browns since 1999. That kind of inconsistency very rarely leads to success.
Can you name the other 23?
If that video was too fast for you, I’ll break it down.
Tim Couch, Ty Detmer, Doug Pederson, Spergon Wynn, Kelly Holcomb, Jeff Garcia, Luke McCown, Trent Dilfer, Charlie Frye, Derek Anderson, Brady Quinn, Ken Dorsey, Bruce Gradkowski, Colt McCoy, Jake Delhomme, Seneca Wallace, Brandon Weeden, Thad Lewis, Jason Campbell, Brian Hoyer, Johnny Manziel, Connor Shaw, Josh McCown and now Davis.
Davis took over for McCown after he was taken out with a collarbone injury on Monday Night. The Browns demoted Manziel to third string after another incident off of the field. In short notice, Davis looked good. He went 7-for-10 for 77 yards and a touchdown in the Monday night loss.
While Davis is just a bandage for a bigger issue, let’s hope that he can lead to team to some success in the final weeks of the 2015 season. McCown is signed for three years and Manziel signed a four-year deal last season. The Cleveland Browns front office and fan base is hoping one of these quarterbacks can click and be the starter for a full season so we don’t have No. 25 next year.
