C.J. McCollum sends Dirk Nowitzki into a spiral of confusion.
What do Portland Trail Blazers guard C.J. McCollum and Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki have in common? They both like circles.
Last night in the tightly contested matchup between the Mavericks and Trail Blazers, included one of the funniest plays of the season. Dirk is getting old and we know that, but to be this slow and unathletic is news. Prior to last night, Dirk previously held some solid defensive numbers, but those should be thrown out the window.
McCollum got the ball thrown innocently to him in the corner, circle No. 1 for Dirk. McCollum took a couple dribbles, went between the legs, circle No. 2. Then it happened, Nowitzki got so lost he was sent into a circle of confusion and we got circle No. 3.
Dirk was schooled and even he knows it. Nowitzki has always been beloved by Mavericks fan for his sense of humor and easy going personality and shared some of that on Twitter after the game.
Hats off to Dirk for admitting that he isn’t quite where he used to be, laughing it off and moving on. Only a seasoned vet has the audacity to grab the bull by the horns. Or, maybe just big, slow white big men who aren’t ashamed of their skills. Maybe next time Dirk can knock down that sweet fader right in McCollum’s face.
