Franz Oberhauser
By Alex Brannan
“Welcome, James. You’ve come across me so many times, yet you never saw me. What took you so long?”
Caution: Spoilers for Spectre ahead
Name: Franz Oberhauser (Ernst Stavro Blofeld)
Appearances: Spectre
Actor: Christoph Waltz
Evil Plot
Franz Oberhauser is revealed to be megalomaniac supervillain Ernst Stavro Blofeld midway through the film Spectre. Oberhauser is the head of the international terrorist organization SPECTRE (SPecial Executives for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge, and Extortion).
In Spectre, Oberhauser’s goal is to execute “Nine Eyes,” a global surveillance program sponsored by nine governments that would allow SPECTRE access to world surveillance, given Max Denbigh’s covert involvement with the terrorist organization. “Nine Eyes” would also dissolve the 00-program at MI6, rendering James Bond irrelevant.
Oberhauser is the son of Hannes Oberhauser, the man who raised James Bond after his parents died. As far as Bond knew, Franz and Hannes died in an avalanche, but Franz actually murdered his own father in jealous rage of his father’s affection for Bond.

Following this incident, Oberhauser took a name from his mother’s lineage: Ernst Stavro Blofeld.
Oberhauser reveals that all of the previous villains that Bond has faced (this is to say all of the villains in the Daniel Craig films) have been operatives of SPECTRE in one way or another. Thus, Oberhauser has been “the author of all his pain.”
Upon arriving at Oberhauser’s base, situated in a crater, Bond is captured and tortured by Oberhauser, who reveals his true identity to the spy. Bond escapes using an exploding watch, and Oberhauser destroys the base, assuming it would kill Bond and Madeleine Swann.
Death
As Oberhauser attempts to flee the MI6 headquarters, Bond shoots down his helicopter and confronts him. Oberhauser crawls away from the wreckage of the crash, and Bond easily catches up to him. Oberhauser demands Bond shoot him, but Bond leaves him to be apprehended. This leaves Oberhauser to return in future Bond adventures (which he does, in the past, as Blofeld).
