Fantasy Football: Amari Cooper or Lamar Miller?

Who do I start? Amari Cooper or Lamar Miller?

In this week’s edition of ‘Who Do I Start?’ we are going to tackle an issue that I have in one of my leagues for a flex spot. This one is a little bit tougher as usually I am facing off a couple of guys who are both running backs or wide receivers.

What I have to do here is try and depict how the future will play out on a football field. Now if you have played fantasy football for any length of time then you know that predicting the future is impossible for anyone, much less on a football field.

So what we have to do is to do the best that we can to try and ascertain which one of these two players will have the greatest propensity to score the highest amount of fantasy football points in order to give my fantasy football team the best chance to win this week that it can.

Amari Cooper has been one of my favorite new rookies to watch this year. He is an incredible athlete and is coming off of a nice seven catch and 115 yard performance against the Tennessee Titans. Granted the Titans have not been one of the better teams or defenses in the league this year that is a great day for any player in the NFL.

Lamar Miller has been a great player this year, but is now coming off of two bad games in a row. Last week against the Jets Miller had a dismal outing with five carries for two yards. He also had a seven carry for 44 yard outing the week before that against the Cowboys.

Now to talk about match-ups which is a very inportant factor on choosing between two different players. Cooper has what I feel like is a very favorable match-up with the Kansas City Chiefs. Now at least that is how it looks on paper. Sometimes we can get carried away and forget that this is the NFL and by and large any given team can shit down any other team any week. The Chiefs have actually been pretty hot the past five or six weeks and their defense has likewise responded well.

Lamar Miller gets the unfortunate charge of facing off with the Baltimore Ravens who have not given up many rushing yards at all this season. The Ravens have in fact allowed the fifth fewest fantasy points to running backs this season.

Looking at all this data tells me that Amari Cooper is likely to be the better of the two choices. You may even think and wonder why I am even struggling with this call, but the way that the Chiefs have been playing lately has really given me a fairly significant pause and made me wondered if I should not roll with Miller. If the Dolphins offense had not struggled so badly over the last few weeks and Miller had more nine and eight touches over the past two weeks I would probably roll with Miller for sure.

So with all of that said I will roll with Amari Cooper here and hope that despite how well the Chiefs are playing that he will be worth of the start. He should get plenty of targets and I also have hope that if the Chiefs are up that it could force the Raiders to throw which could benefit Cooper as well.
