In the most unbelievable fashion, the Detroit Lions lost to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night.

Down 20-0 going into the second half, the Green Bay Packers completed the largest comeback in the history of their rivalry with the Detroit Lions to win 27-23 on Thursday Night Football.

Aaron Rodgers and the Packers got the football back with 30 seconds remaining down 23-21. The game ended on an improbable 61-yard Hail Mary touchdown pass to Richard Rodgers, but the reason why Green Bay had a chance to run that play was controversial.

On the previous play, the Lions were called for a personal foul facemask penalty that cost them 15 yards and extended the game for one more play. Here is a screenshot of the play here:

Mike Carey, CBS’ in-studio former NFL referee who is supposed to be an “expert” on NFL rules said that the call made was correct, and that the Lions’ player got “just enough” of the facemask to warrant the penalty. You decide.

Green Bay improved to 8-4, and a season that looked to be nearing life support according to the media now has reinvigorated life entering the season’s final month. The Detroit Lions dropped to 4-8 and have all been eliminated from postseason contention.
