LSU AD Joe Alleva admits to making ‘inquiries’ about possible Les Miles replacements
After deciding to stick with Les Miles as head coach, the LSU AD admitted to looking at other potential coaches.
One of the best things that has happened in college football recently was when LSU came to their senses and realized Les Miles was the best football coach for their program. When rumors broke out that he was on the verge of being replaced, no one could understand why the program would be so quick to ditch a coach that was successful and did so much for the program.
When it looked like Miles would be coaching in his final home game in Baton Rouge, the fans gave Miles an ovation that he would remember for a lifetime. He was even carried off the field by his team and given the game ball. After seeing the outpouring of emotion toward the LSU head coach, AD Joe Alleva had no choice but to keep Miles on as the head coach of their football program.
While Alleva could have just done general speak and said Miles was their coach all along, he was honest about the program looking at other options, when he admitted the team looked at other options, according to LSU beat reporter for The Advocate, Ross Dellenger.
"LSU athletic director Joe Alleva broke his silence Friday, saying he “looked at options” and made “inquiries” regarding a potential new football coach but those ended four days before the Tigers’ regular season finale against Texas A&M.In a 15-minute interview from his office, Alleva, the eighth-year athletic director, said he’s fully behind Les Miles and that the two – Miles and Alleva – have agreed that offensive changes need to be made moving forward.“My plans are to help Les Miles win and be the coach here until he wants to retire. My goal is to help the man win,” Alleva said."
While they almost made a boneheaded decision to let Miles go from the program, there has to be credit given to Alleva for being willing to admit honestly that the program was indeed looking at potential replacement options for their head coaching position.
It was a rough time for the Tigers as they were on a losing streak that took them right out of the playoff picture completely. While it looked like the program was going to make an irrational decision regarding Miles, they came to their senses and ultimately made perhaps one of the best decisions that the program has ever made.
