The New York Mets have announced that their general manager, Sandy Alderson, is battling cancer.

There has been some sad news from the New York Mets on Friday. The team has announced that their general manager, Sandy Alderson, is battling cancer.

The good news is that it appears the cancer Alderson has is treatable. Despite the cancer being treatable, it will cause Alderson to miss next week’s Winter Meetings, where deals are swung between teams. Not having Alderson there is a blow to the Mets, as he has done his best work establishing a roster of young talent and tremendous pitching that took the Mets to the World Series in 2015.

However the health of Alderson is certainly more important and the Mets have a tremendous staff that can fill in to help out at the Winter Meetings in his absence. During his time as the Mets general manager, Alderson has overseen moves such as bringing in Terry Collins as manager, acquiring young talent like Zach Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard and the development of the rest of his talented young pitching staff. He’s certainly made his moves en route to becoming one of the top league executives in all of Major League Baseball.

He will definitely have the entire baseball community rooting him on during his battle with cancer.
