MLB Rumors: Arizona Diamondbacks interested in Mike Leake after Zack Greinke deal
After adding Zack Greinke, the Arizona Diamondbacks are reportedly after Mike Leake.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are having a day to remember. After the team unveiled brand new uniforms on Thursday to represent the next phase of the franchise, the team shocked everyone in Major League Baseball when they signed right-handed starter Zack Greinke.
By Adding Greinke, the Diamondbacks solidified themselves as contenders in the National League, as they look to make their mark under the Tony LaRussa regime. With the team giving Greinke a staggering amount of cash, one would expect they might be done Christmas shopping.
Well that doesn’t appear to be the case, as the Diamondbacks look like they are ready to keep spending. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Arizona Diamondbacks are very interested in former Arizona State Sun Devils product Mike Leake, even after adding Greinke and his massive contract.
It’s long been thought that a pitcher like Leake would be a target for the Diamondbacks, as the team wasn’t expected to be after any of the top names on the market. It looks like they want all the names on the market now.
Last season, the Diamondbacks struggled with a young and inconsistent rotation. Now they have an ace in Greinke to pair with All-Star pitcher Patrick Corbin. Adding Leake to go with the talented young pitching that the Diamondbacks have would suddenly give them one of the best rotations in Major League Baseball.
It will be interesting to see how much the Diamondbacks are willing to spend now after giving Greinke his deal, but if their interest in Leake is an indicator, they’ve got money to spend.
