MLB Rumors: Ben Zobrist visits with New York Mets
According to Ken Rosenthal, free agent Ben Zobrist visited the New York Mets on Wednesday.
One of the top free agents on the market this off-season is infielder Ben Zobrist. After being a key addition that was a nice contributor to the Kansas City Royals winning the World Series, everyone wants their shot to get a chance to sign Zobrist.
It just so happens that the team he could very well be signing with this off-season, might be the team that he helped beat in the World Series. According to Ken Rosenthal, Zobrist met with the New York Mets on Wednesday, and toured parts that are close to New York City.
Zobrist is a two-time All-Star with an effective bat that would be an added bonus to any team that signs him. With NLCS hero Daniel Murphy set to also be a free agent this off-season, the Mets could very well have their sights set on Zobrist, a more proven talent in the infield instead.
One of the things that made both the Royals and Mets successful in 2015 was their tremendous situational hitting. Zobrist can provide that much-needed bat when things are on the line. He’s always been a talent that hasn’t always gotten the recognition he deserves playing in smaller markets his entire career. But in New York, he would finally get the attention that he deserves.
He’s likely going to have several suitors chasing after his services, so the Mets are likely going to have to offer him a very generous contract if they want to see him wearing blue and orange. The good news for the Mets is that Zobrist has proven thus far in his career that he is worth every penny of whatever contract that he is going to receive from a team.
If the rumors are true, Ben Zobrist could very soon be a member of the New York Mets.
